p1534
Hidasuki sake cup
This is an earlier work of Bizen Hidasuki sake cup by So Kaneshige, the eldest son of the master potter Sozan Kaneshige, whose works captivate many with their harmony of delicate, elegant clay texture and powerful form. Unlike his current style, this piece features a soft, plump silhouette. The Hidasuki (fire-cord) markings are rich and vivid, in a way that only So-sensei could achieve. The soft form makes the most of the yellowish clay texture, and the scarlet accents add a truly wonderful touch.

Original signed box (Shiho-san)
Diameter 7.3cm x Diameter 7.0cm x Height 5.3cm

So Kaneshige was the eldest son of the Intangible Cultural Property holder, Sozan Kaneshige. After graduating from the Faculty of Agriculture at Kyoto University in 1969, he began his path in ceramics under his father. He became independent in 1979. He primarily produced tea ceremony ceramics on the potter's wheel, characterized by deep, rich firing. He focused on eliminating decoration as much as possible, striving to pour his soul directly into the clay. He rarely entered public exhibitions, focusing his energy instead on solo exhibitions. He held energetic annual solo exhibitions at department stores in Okayama, Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, and Kumamoto, and also held a solo exhibition in Munich, Germany, in 1995. In 1997, he also exhibited at the Bizen Ware Paris Exhibition.
