p1618
Hidasuki Tea Cup
This is a new Hidasuki yunomi (tea cup) by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his mastery of clay, firing, and craftsmanship. Having explored the possibilities of clay, firing techniques, and form until he was thoroughly satisfied, he has achieved a Hidasuki (fire-cord) pattern brimming with a vitality that rivals that of antique Bizen ware. The rich Hidasuki sensitively captures subtle temperature fluctuations, appearing as vermilion cords draped across the body, while also wrapping around the base like a reddish-brown veil or a loincloth. The white skin revealed from beneath these Hidasuki garments features a profound "mugusa" (mugwort) hue that kiln-transforms into pale azuki-bean shades in places, lending it an indescribable charm. The rich Hidasuki and the well-fired clay surface possess an air so evocative that they seem capable of elevating the very fragrance of the tea.

Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
Diameter 8.8cm × 8.4cm × Height 8.7cm

About gift wrapping

Yoshinobu Morimoto was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1976.
