p2161
Kuroshuten
This is a black sake cup, the latest release from the kiln of Masao Akiya, an artist who trained under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with unique originality within a fresh spirit. As Akiya himself declared it a great success, this is a magnificent piece featuring a generous coating of natural glaze and a deep, lustrous black finish. The abundant natural glaze shifts into hues reminiscent of light blue and gold paint in places, and combined with the intricate, multi-directional glaze drips, the cup is so full of highlights that it is hard to know where to look first. The piece was created by expanding a lump of clay from the inside out, and the unique curves of the body match perfectly with the carved linear patterns.

View the blog post from Kawaguchi Tourakuen

Signed wooden box to follow (please note that shipping will take some time).
Diameter 6.8cm x Diameter 6.5cm x Height 7.2cm

Masao Akiya was born in Saitama in 1968.
