p2207
Black sake bottle
This black sake bottle is the latest kiln-fired work by Masao Akiya, a potter who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with his own unique originality within a new spirit. This stunning sake bottle’s charm lies in its magnificent kiln-transformation, having received the full force of the kiln’s hot air like a mast catching a gust of wind while skimming across the sea. The vessel’s shape, reminiscent of a human torso, combined with an abundance of sesame glaze, makes it appear as if the glaze were a cloak, while the front is adorned with a stunning "tamatare" (bead-like drip) that looks like a sash clip. Of course, being a black kiln-transformed piece, it also offers beautiful shades of blue, with cobalt blue appearing on the rim and shoulders that becomes even more vibrant when wet.

See the blog post by Kawaguchi Tourakuen

Signed wooden box to follow (please allow some time for delivery)
Rim 4.0cm × Body diameter including bead drip 10.2cm × Body diameter 9.9cm × Height 15.0cm Capacity: approx. 370cc

Masao Akiya was born in Saitama in 1968.
