p2278
Teacup
This Bizen teacup is the work of Yukio Tomori, who began his journey in ceramics in Okinawa before studying under Taisetsu Sueishi in Bizen. Reflecting his desire to capture the "most beautiful moment" in clay that is constantly shifting on the potter's wheel, his work appears as if the lively clay has been fired in its dynamic state. The pieces seem to dance with joy, feeling as though they might continue to expand if touched, and they bring a sense of delight to the observer as well. The deeply undulating surface is very comfortable to hold, offering a profound sense of reassurance when cradled in both hands.

"Yukio Tomori Feature"

No box
Diameter 9.0cm x Diameter 8.7cm x Height 8.7cm

Yukio Tomori was born on Miyako Island, Okinawa. He aspired to a career in ceramics after encountering wood-fired unglazed pottery in Okinawa during his high school years. He trained at the Tsunami-yama Pottery in Okinawa starting in 1984. Later, moved by his encounter with Bizen ware while traveling through various pottery regions, he studied under Taisetsu Sueishi for four years beginning in 1987. He built his own anagama kiln in 1999 and became independent after his first firing. Since holding his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2001, he has held exhibitions in various locations, including Fukushima, Chiba, Osaka, Ehime, and Miyako Island.
