p2281
Rectangular plate
This Bizen teacup is by Yukio Tomori, who began his path in pottery in Okinawa before studying under Taisetsu Sueishi in Bizen. True to Mr. Tomori's philosophy of capturing the "perfect moment" by letting the clay flow naturally without imposing fixed shapes or constraints, this piece is filled with a sense of movement. Although it is a rectangular plate created with the *tataki-zukuri* (beating) technique, the ends are dramatically curved upward, successfully combining a sharp aesthetic with a practical design that prevents food from spilling. The plate also features a rare *tsuke-kodai* (applied foot), showcasing Mr. Tomori's meticulous attention to design.

"Yukio Tomori Special Feature"

No box included
Diameter 24.5cm × Width 12.0cm × Height 7.0cm

Yukio Tomori was born on Miyakojima Island, Okinawa. He decided to pursue a career in pottery after encountering wood-fired stoneware in Okinawa during his high school years. He began his training at Tsunami-yama Pottery in Okinawa in 1984. Later, while traveling through various pottery regions, he discovered and was moved by Bizen ware, leading him to study under Taisetsu Sueishi for four years starting in 1987. In 1999, he built his own *anagama* (tunnel kiln) and fired his first kiln to become an independent artist. Since his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2001, he has held exhibitions in various locations, including Fukushima, Chiba, Osaka, Ehime, and Miyakojima.
