p2288
Shisa
This is a Bizen ware Shisa figurine by Yukio Tomori, who began his path in pottery in Okinawa and studied under Taisetsu Sueishi in Bizen. It is a unique piece that expresses the Okinawan specialty, the Shisa, through Bizen ware, reflecting Tomori-sensei’s roots in Miyakojima. The piece has a soft, reddish finish achieved by avoiding the "goma" (ash glaze) effect, which further accentuates the character of the Shisa. The mouth is designed to hold various items; similar pieces have been used in Tomori-sensei’s workshop as candle holders, single-flower vases, or display stands.

"Yukio Tomori Feature"

No box
Diameter 13.6cm x 9.8cm x Height 13.2cm

Yukio Tomori was born on Miyakojima, Okinawa Prefecture.
