p2295
Shuten
This is a Bizen sake cup by Yukio Tomori, who began his pottery career in Okinawa before studying under Master Taisetsu Sueishi in Bizen. His style captures the clay in its most dynamic state, as he seeks to present the "most beautiful moment" he witnesses while constantly manipulating the form on the potter's wheel. The cup has a low, sprawling posture reminiscent of a *badarai* (horse-trough) tea bowl, making it easy to hold and highly practical. It features a crusty *kase-goma* ash glaze and a beautiful scarlet *hi-iro* hue, while its wide mouth illuminates the sake within, promising a superb drinking experience.

"Yukio Tomori Special Feature"

Signed wooden box to be provided at a later date (please allow some time for delivery)
Diameter 9.3cm x Diameter 8.6cm x Height 4.3cm

Yukio Tomori was born on Miyako Island, Okinawa. Later, captivated by Bizen ware during his travels to various pottery regions, he studied under Master Taisetsu Sueishi for four years starting in 1987. He built his own anagama kiln in 1999 and became independent after his first firing.
