p2297
Shuten
This is a Bizen sake cup by Yukio Tomori, who began his pottery journey in Okinawa and later studied under Taisetsu Sueishi in Bizen. Driven by the desire to capture the "most beautiful moment" of the clay as it constantly shifts on the potter's wheel, his style makes the clay appear as though it were fired mid-motion. The cup features large, spiral-shaped throwing marks that give it the vigor and atmosphere of a drill. It displays *kase-goma* (crusty ash) and a beautiful scarlet *hi-iro* (fire color), promising an exceptional experience as it is used and ages.

"Yukio Tomori Special Feature"

Signed box to be provided at a later date (please allow some time for delivery)
Diameter 7.5cm × Diameter 7.4cm × Height 6.5cm

Yukio Tomori was born on Miyako Island, Okinawa. He decided to pursue pottery after encountering wood-fired stoneware during his high school years. He began his training at the Tsunami-yama Pottery in Okinawa in 1984. Later, during his travels to various pottery centers, he was deeply moved by Bizen ware and spent four years studying under Taisetsu Sueishi starting in 1987. In 1999, he built his own *anagama* (tunnel kiln) and held his first firing as an independent artist. Since his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2001, he has held exhibitions in various locations, including Fukushima, Chiba, Osaka, Ehime, and Miyako Island.
