p2358
Bizen Yohen Sake Bottle
This is a new yohen (kiln-transmuted) tokkuri (sake bottle) by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds his life's joy in creating works and firing his kiln. For this piece, he threw a slightly small, thick-walled bottle, added a base by leaving extra clay around the bottom, and then carved the body of the bottle as if he were sculpting wood. The striking, almost incongruous combination of carving the body and then adding a base is completely resolved and unified by enveloping the entire piece in intense kiln-transmutation effects. Its sloped shoulders are reminiscent of a wooden Buddhist statue, and as you hold it and gaze at it, this mysterious piece creates the illusion that you carved it yourself.

"Takashi Baba Feature"

Signed wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time for shipping)
Mouth diameter 3.4cm × Body diameter 8.8cm × 8.8cm × Height 14.8cm Capacity approx. 450cc

Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba.
