p2415
Yohen Tokkuri
This is a new kiln-altered sake bottle by Takashi Baba, who was born in Imbe, has loved Bizen ware since childhood, and finds his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. After throwing a slightly small, thick-walled bottle, he added a base by leaving extra clay from the waist down, and then carved the bottle portion like a wood carving using a spatula. By enveloping the entire piece in intense kiln alterations, he completely dispels the sense of dissonance one might feel from adding a base to a carved body, creating a sense of unity. The sloped shoulders are reminiscent of a wooden Buddhist statue, and as you hold it and gaze at it, this mysterious piece creates the illusion that you carved it yourself.

"Takashi Baba Special Feature"

Signed wooden box to follow at a later date (please allow some time for shipping).
Rim 3.3cm x Body diameter 8.0cm x Body diameter 7.8cm x Height 14.1cm; Capacity approx. 280cc

Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba.
