p2810
Bizen sake bottle
This Bizen tokkuri (sake bottle) is by Takao Kibata, who made his long-awaited debut after nine years of diligent training as a pupil of Jun Isezaki. By burying the piece in sand and firing it at a high temperature, the surface of the clay takes on an appearance as if it has weathered over several centuries. In keeping with this unique texture, which is reminiscent of sun-dried brick, the form is primitive; while it retains the silhouette of a sake bottle, it also evokes the feel of daily household wares from the Middle East. The reddish-brown spots on the brownish surface were created by varying the way the smoke is absorbed, resulting in subtle differences in color.

About the "Takao Kibata New Works Exhibition"

Signed wooden box (with double-bar lid)
Rim 3.8cm × Body 9.3cm × 8.7cm × Height 14.4cm, Capacity approx. 370cc

Takao Kibata was born in Inbe, Bizen City in 1974.
