p2920
Bizen sake cup
This sake cup is the work of Shusaku Taku, an artist who takes the everyday inspirations of life and ferments them into form, creating Bizen ware that has matured alongside the continuous activities of humanity. The fine irregularities and flow of the clay, created through coil-building, breathe dynamic movement into the piece, making it feel as if you are holding raw clay itself when it rests in your palm. The deep, matte, reddish surface, kissed by a rich scarlet *hidasuki* (fire-cord) marking, presents a dance of red and crimson that captivates the eye. With its thick, substantial weight and the wabi-sabi charm of a light dusting of sesame ash, this sake cup possesses the refined, withered aesthetic of classic antique Bizen.

Interview with Shusaku Taku

Signed wooden box to follow at a later date (please allow some time for shipping).
Diameter 6.9cm x Diameter 6.8cm x Height 7.0cm

Shusaku Taku was born in 1980 as the eldest son of Mamoru Taku.
