p2999
Bizen sake cup
This sake cup is the work of Shusaku Taku, an artist who shapes his creations using the emotions of daily life as his "yeast," breathing new life into Bizen ware that has matured alongside the continuous human experience. The fine indentations and flow of the clay created by his coil-building technique give the piece a powerful sense of motion, and when held, it feels as if your palm has become one with the piece, as if you were gripping the raw clay itself. The interior features bold potter's wheel marks resembling a whirlpool, which emerge from hiding once you finish your drink. The surface was treated with a burner to induce shrinkage and create cracks, which, combined with the rugged "kase-goma" (dry ash glaze), evokes the atmosphere of a vast, boundless wilderness.

Shusaku Taku Interview

Signed wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time for delivery)
Diameter 7.7cm x 7.6cm × Height 6.3cm

Shusaku Taku was born in 1980 as the eldest son of Mamoru Taku.
