The deep, rich yellow sesame glaze (kama) and the unpretentious style clearly reflect Master Mitsuru's philosophy of pottery. The dull, gleaming gray clay of the interior changes to a calm, classic Bizen earth tone once sake is poured into it.\n\nSigned wooden box (shiho-san)\u003cbr\u003e\nDiameter 6.3cm × Diameter 6.2cm × Height 5.9cm\n\nBorn in 1934 as the eldest son of Intangible Cultural Property holder Yozan Isezaki, Master Mitsuru Isezaki learned pottery from his father at a young age and majored in sculpture in the Special Fine Arts course at Okayama University. As an authentic master of tea ceramics, he pursued Momoyama-style forms, clay textures, and firing techniques. He selectively used climbing kilns and medieval-style anagama kilns depending on the piece, strictly avoiding electric or gas kilns in favor of firing with pine wood. He became a full member of the Japan Kōgei Association in 1964 and received the Kaneshige Toyo Award in 1974. In 1994, he received the Sanyo Shimbun Cultural Merit Award, and in 1998, he won the 15th Tanabe Museum of Art Grand Prize. In March of that same year, he was certified as a Prefectural Designated Important Intangible Cultural Property holder.
