p3109
Bizen rectangular plate
This rectangular Bizen plate is the work of Sho Fujita, an artist who studies various art forms and fuses them into a single mode of expression within himself. It belongs to his "Chiso Bizen" (Strata Bizen) series, featuring a design that looks as if it were cored from the earth like a geological survey sample. True to the series name, the layers of soil composition create a marbled pattern, while the surface is meticulously burnished to achieve a balance between aesthetic beauty and ease of use. The remaining areas are finished with a slightly bolder kiln-effect (yohen), complemented by a chigiri-te (torn-style) design that creates a contrast in texture and visual impact against the central surface. (Please note that due to the concept of Chiso Bizen, there are large "ishi-haze" stone bursts on the piece.)

View blog post about this work

Paper box
Diameter 23.7cm x 12.6cm x Height 3.3cm

Sho Fujita was born in Wakayama City, Wakayama Prefecture, in 1978.
