p3225
Hake-me Sake Cup
This is a new *hakeme* (brushed slip) sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who is constantly evolving in his approach to clay, firing, and form. Captivated by the austere beauty of Yi dynasty *hakeme* ware, he has arrived at this piece with its deeply evocative glaze after extensive research. The white slip, applied with a bundle of rice straw, has a perfectly coarse texture that complements the surface, which has fired to a near-milky white with charming scuffs, unevenness, and bleeding iron spots. The "appropriately casual" application of slip in the interior creates a weathered, wabi-sabi effect that, when filled with sake, stirs the spirit. It is a magnificent work defined not by a flashy white glaze, but by a wabi-style white slip. (*Please note: There is a slight wobble, but the cup becomes stable once filled with sake.)

See the blog post about this sake cup

Includes signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
Diameter 9.0cm x 8.7cm x Height 4.6cm

Yoshinobu Morimoto was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1976.
