{"product_id":"p3455","title":"Bizen Sake Cup","description":"This is a brand new Bizen ware sake cup, just out of the kiln from Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki, who continues to lead the world of Bizen pottery with an inexhaustible creative power. This new work, carefully fired over an eleven-day kiln run, features an intense pool of \"goma\" (ash glaze) in the interior that resembles a seahorse. The waist has been shaped in four directions using a tool resembling a pressing trowel to create linear patterns, with the flowing goma glaze exhibiting complex movements as it follows these lines. The \"kase-goma\" (dry ash glaze) fired to a rare white color, typical of an anagama kiln, is also magnificent.\n\nSigned wooden box to follow (please allow some time for shipping)\u003cbr\u003e\nDiameter 7.4cm x 7.0cm x Height 6.6cm\n\nJun Isezaki was born as the second son of Yozan Isezaki, a master of fine ceramic craft, and studied pottery from a young age before entering the field professionally after graduating from the Special Art Course at Okayama University in 1959. His works span a wide range, from traditional items like flower vases, plates, and tea ceremony utensils to sculptural works such as ceramic wall reliefs and objects. In his creative process, he places great emphasis on both forming and firing. His style is characterized by a modern sensibility that maximizes the unique qualities of his materials and kilns (anagama, climbing kilns, and electric kilns). He is also recognized as a leading relief artist and has presented numerous works. He became a full member of the Japan Kōgei Association in 1966. From 1978, he served as a special lecturer in fine arts at Okayama University for nine years. In 1998, he and his brother, Mitsuru Isezaki, were both designated as Holders of Important Intangible Cultural Property of Okayama Prefecture; in the same year, he became the Secretary-General of the Chugoku Branch of the Japan Kōgei Association.
