{"product_id":"p3568","title":"Bizen-yaki teacup","description":"This is a new Bizen ware tea cup by Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki, who continues to lead the Bizen ware world with an inexhaustible well of creativity. This rare tea cup offers a unique *yohen* (kiln-transmutation) landscape, which is seldom seen even in anagama-fired pieces. Centered around a bright grey ash-covered base, the *kigoma* (yellow sesame) and *kurogoma* (black sesame) characteristic of anagama firing create a striped pattern. The interior shows a slightly stronger reduction, featuring a pale orange *tasuki* (sash) mark against a base of bluish-grey, revealing an expression entirely different from the vivid scarlet on white typically seen in anagama firing.\n\nSigned wooden box (shiho-san)\u003cbr\u003e\nDiameter 7.8cm × Diameter 7.8cm × Height 9.1cm\n\nJun Isezaki was born as the second son of Yozan Isezaki, a master of ceramic ornamentation, and began learning ceramics from a young age. He entered the path of a ceramic artist after graduating from the Special Art Course at Okayama University in 1959. His body of work is vast, spanning from traditional vessels, plates, and tea ceremony wares to sculptural ceramic walls and objects. In his creative process, he emphasizes both forming and firing, utilizing the unique characteristics of his materials and kilns (anagama, climbing, and electric kilns) to produce a style imbued with a modern sensibility. He is also a leading figure in relief art, having unveiled numerous works in that field. He became a full member of the Japan Kōgei Association in 1966. From 1978, he served as a special lecturer in fine arts at Okayama University for nine years. In 1998, he and his brother Mitsuru were both certified as Holders of Important Intangible Cultural Properties of Okayama Prefecture, and in the same year, he became the Secretary General of the Chugoku Branch of the Japan Kōgei Association.
