p3676
Hidasuki Ochoko
This is a hi-dasuki (fire-cord) sake cup from Yoshinobu Morimoto's latest exhibition. It is part of a series that recreates the style of early Karatsu and old Karatsu Oku-Korai ware, which emerged during what is commonly known as the "Tea Bowl Wars," using the Bizen technique. Created following the production style of Karatsu, the pieces are made in large quantities with a focus on speed, and only those that are exceptionally well-crafted are carefully selected for release. Despite the technical mastery involved, they possess a gentle expression that feels completely natural and unforced. The intense hi-dasuki landscape, achieved through a specially formulated clay, appears to float off the surface as if it were fluorescent. The texture of the clay is remarkably moist, and just like Karatsu ware, it promises to change and develop a beautiful patina through continued use.

Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
Diameter 5.8cm × 5.6cm × Height 4.6cm

About the Yoshinobu Morimoto New Works Exhibition

Yoshinobu Morimoto was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1976.
