p3764
Bizen Katakuchi
This is a Bizen katakuchi (spouted bowl) from Yoshinobu Morimoto's new exhibition. It is part of a series that recreates the early Karatsu period, which began with the so-called "Tea Bowl Wars," and the era of Old Karatsu Oku-Korai, using Bizen techniques. Produced in accordance with the Karatsu style, the artist focuses on speed and mass production, then painstakingly selects only the most exceptional pieces for release. Despite the immense skill involved, the work possesses a gentle expression that feels completely natural and unforced. The form, devoid of any artifice, is complemented by a simple firing, resulting in a beauty that highlights the raw, honest character of the clay through its scarlet and shiso-purple tones.

Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
Diameter 16.4cm × 12.5cm × Height 8.1cm

About Yoshinobu Morimoto's New Exhibition

Yoshinobu Morimoto was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1976.
