{"product_id":"p4300","title":"Bizen sake cup","description":"This is a brand-new Bizen sake cup, fresh from the kiln of Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki, an artist who continues to lead the Bizen pottery world with an inexhaustible well of creativity. Fired in the Koyasan climbing kiln (ana-gama) that he restored alongside his father, Yozan, and his brother, Mitsuru, this latest piece features rare, natural sangiri (color variations) and flashes of gold that are seldom seen in ana-gama firing. The sangiri, rarely found in ana-gama work, appears around the base, and the kiln's atmospheric transformation has further refined this glaze into a hue best described as \"purple-silver.\" Matching this, the exposed clay surface has also undergone changes, with the orange-tinged earth tones accented by golden flashes, creating a mystical aesthetic reminiscent of a sunset coastline. The interior is fired to such a degree that \"buku\" (blistering) has occurred, with black and yellow sesame-like ash glazes appearing to swirl across the surface.\n\nSigned wooden box to be provided at a later date (please allow some time for shipping).\u003cbr\u003e\nDiameter 6.5cm × Diameter 6.5cm × Height 6.8cm\n\nJun Isezaki was born the second son of Yozan Isezaki, a master known for his intricate ceramic figurines, and studied pottery from a young age. After graduating from the Special Art Course at Okayama University in 1959, he dedicated himself to the path of ceramics. His work spans a broad spectrum, from traditional vases, plates, and tea ceremony utensils to sculptural wall pieces and objects. In his creative process, he places great importance on both shaping and firing, utilizing the distinct characteristics of his materials and kilns (ana-gama, climbing kilns, and electric kilns) to produce work imbued with a modern sensibility. He is also recognized as a leading relief artist and has presented numerous works in this field. He became a full member of the Japan Kōgei Association in 1966 and served as a special art instructor at Okayama University for nine years starting in 1978. In 1998, he and his brother, Mitsuru, were both designated as Preservers of Important Intangible Cultural Property of Okayama Prefecture, and in the same year, he became the Secretary-General of the Chugoku Branch of the Japan Kōgei Association.
