{"product_id":"p4331","title":"Bizen ware plate","description":"This Bizen plate was fresh from the kiln by Masao Akiya, a potter who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works overflowing with unique originality within a fresh spirit. These are the first new pieces from Masao Akiya in approximately two years since his last firing. True to his mentor Jun Isezaki, the design is quintessentially orthodox yet refined, reflecting Mr. Akiya’s aim to create works that resonate with modern sensibilities. After stacking the plates, he applied a black slip only to the outer edges before firing; the combination of the black rims and the mist-like sesame ash that drifted into the gaps between the stacked plates creates an atmosphere reminiscent of makie lacquerware. Both the front and back are vividly adorned with bright red *hidasuki* (fire-cord) markings, creating a sense of \"dynamic\" energy like a flash of lightning that contrasts with the \"static\" black makie-style finish and sesame glaze. At eight inches, this size is incredibly versatile and has a slight depth that makes it easy to handle; it is highly recommended and reasonably priced for an eight-inch piece.\n\nPaper box\u003cbr\u003e\nDiameter 24.5cm x 24.4cm x Height 4.7cm\n\nMasao Akiya was born in Saitama in 1968.
