{"product_id":"p4517","title":"White Charcoal-Fired Sake Cup \"Kagutsuchi\"","description":"This is the white carbonized sake cup \"Kagutsuchi\" by Toru Ichikawa, who studied under Ryuichi Kakurezaki and made a sensational debut. It is an exceptionally creative work that reflects Ichikawa's style of giving shape to his inexhaustible ideas through the supreme medium of clay. This daring latest work from the new \"Kagutsuchi\" series of glasses is inspired by \"Hinokagutsuchi-no-kami,\" the fire god of Japanese mythology. In an evocation of the myth of Hinokagutsuchi-no-kami, who is said to have been born burning the body of his mother, the goddess Izanami, the piece features an intensely scorched-looking *kairagi* glaze achieved by maximizing the shrinkage rate. As the fire god is also worshipped as the god of blacksmithing, this work seems to embody Ichikawa's pride in the act of creation through fire that is pottery. This piece features a beautiful silvery white clay body achieved through carbonization, combined with a wild, rugged Kagutsuchi white glaze that evokes *oni-hagi* pottery. While the Kagutsuchi glaze usually conveys the intensity of flames, the combination of white and silver evokes the image of a silvery landscape as the snow begins to melt.\n\nSigned wooden box (shiho-zan) with lid\u003cbr\u003e\nDiameter 9.3cm x Diameter 8.9cm x Height 6.6cm\n\nToru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo.
