p4527
Hidasuki Sake Cup
This is a Hidasuki (fire-cord) sake cup by Yuho Kaneshige, the immensely popular third son of the tea ceramics master, Sozan Kaneshige. This cup belongs to a series the artist has been working on for about three years that focuses on a near-plain aesthetic, crafted from high-quality clay fired carefully in a climbing kiln inside a sagger. The most notable feature is its texture; the surface of the clay is exceptionally fine, to the point where one can almost feel a powdery quality. The superb surface, created with the finest Kannon-do clay that has captivated Kaneshige, is so pleasant to the touch that one never tires of holding it—a perfect match for a piece intended to be enjoyed in the palm of one's hand. The clean, understated Hidasuki pattern also strongly reflects the artist's personal preference, as he applies the straw with his eyes closed to avoid any sense of contrivance.

See the blog post by Yuho Kaneshige

Signed wooden box to follow (please allow some time for shipment)
Diameter 6.6cm x Diameter 6.3cm x Height 5.1cm

Yuho Kaneshige was born as the third son of the Intangible Cultural Property holder, Sozan Kaneshige.
