p4530
Ibe Tokkuri
This is an Ibe sake bottle by Yuho Kaneshige, the third son of the legendary tea pottery master Sozan Kaneshige, who enjoys enduring popularity. This is a rare *yohen* (kiln-transmuted) work from a climbing kiln, the first one from Yuho Kaneshige in a long time. For over a decade, Kaneshige has primarily presented works made mainly from mountain clay or pieces fired in saggars to avoid kiln transmutation, but this new work features magnificent firing. The *haikaburi* (ash-covered) kiln transmutation covering the entire piece has been fired to a depth beyond black, with carbonized silvery-purple hues emitting a dull glow. Even in the characteristic "round gap" on the body, intense firing and gold coloration combine to create a metallic texture, as if it were made of metal. Despite the intense kiln transmutation, the form is small and possesses a fleeting, ethereal quality, as if it were the embodiment of the silence that remains after everything has withered and burned away.

View blog post by Yuho Kaneshige

Signed wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time for shipping)
Mouth diameter 3.2cm × Body diameter 8.9cm × Body diameter 8.8cm × Height 9.9cm Capacity approx. 230cc

Yuho Kaneshige was born as the third son of Intangible Cultural Property holder Sozan Kaneshige. He creates tableware, focusing on tea utensils such as tea bowls, water jars, and flower vases. He has received the Sanyo Shimbun Award at the Prefectural Exhibition, the Encouragement Award at the Exhibition of Tea Ceremony Form, and the Tanko Biennale Encouragement Award. He received the Japan Ceramic Society Award in 2003 and the Sanyo Shimbun Cultural Merit Award in 2018. He is also active in holding solo exhibitions in various locations.
