{"product_id":"p4640","title":"Bizen Sake Cup","description":"This is a newly fired Bizen sake cup by Takashi Soga, who challenges the beauty of antiquity by recreating the same environment in which Old Bizen pottery was fired. To replicate the style of the Old Bizen period, he avoids the use of firebricks and other modern materials; because of the kiln's thermal efficiency, it is fired using methods that defy all modern conventions. As a result, the cup displays a superb clay texture that transcends contemporary aesthetics and approaches that of true Old Bizen. The mellow scarlet hue is not the result of under-firing, but rather the color of the clay achieved through high-temperature vitrification, brilliantly recreating the strong scarlet skin characteristic of the Old Bizen style. The wrapped *hidasuki* (fire-cord) markings show a stark contrast between the front and back; on the front, black cords overlay a red base, while on the back, they appear as shadows of *goma* (ash glaze), almost like wax-resist patterns. The interior also features a deeply vitrified scarlet hue, making this piece feel like the realization of the dream of owning an Old Bizen sake cup.\n\nSigned wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time for shipment).\u003cbr\u003e\nDiameter 6.1cm × Diameter 6.0cm × Height 5.5cm\n\nTakashi Soga was born in Tokyo in 1984.
