{"product_id":"p4692","title":"Bizen plate","description":"This Bizen plate is by Takashi Soga, an artist who challenges the beauty of antiquity by recreating the environment of the era when Old Bizen was fired. To replicate the style of the Old Bizen period, he avoids the use of firebricks and other modern materials, firing the pieces in a kiln where modern common sense regarding thermal efficiency does not apply; consequently, the work transcends contemporary aesthetics, displaying an exquisite clay texture that approaches that of true Old Bizen. The mellow scarlet hue is not the result of under-firing, but rather the natural color of the clay achieved through high-temperature firing, brilliantly reproducing the intense scarlet skin typical of Old Bizen-style works. The *hidasuki* (fire cord) markings are blackened in response to the hard firing, creating a magnificent finish reminiscent of the scenery seen on large Old Bizen bowls, where black fire cords drape over a red ground. Various innovations have also been applied to the form; while one can feel the essence of Old Bizen in details like the rolled rim, the underside is firmly carved with a spatula and features a foot designed for stability, resulting in a piece that offers the taste of Old Bizen style while remaining highly practical for use.\n\nPaper box\u003cbr\u003e\nDiameter 19.5cm × 19.5cm × Height 4.0cm\n\nTakashi Soga was born in Tokyo in 1984.
