{"product_id":"p4936","title":"Ibe Shuten","description":"This is a newly fired Ibe sake cup by Ariyuki Kaneshige, an artist who, despite being part of the Kaneshige lineage, constantly questions himself and creates works as an individual potter named Ariyuki, rather than as \"Kaneshige Ariyuki.\" Having pondered extensively about working with the traditional *haikaburi yohen* (ash-covered kiln change) technique within the Kaneshige school, this piece represents a highly anticipated execution of that style. True to Ariyuki-sensei’s almost reverent approach to clay, the quality of the material is superb, and the base scarlet hue possesses an exquisite, melt-in-the-mouth quality. The ash-covered glaze blankets nearly the entire body, leaving only the foot and the interior visible in the raw scarlet clay—a sophisticated aesthetic that true connoisseurs will appreciate. This work encapsulates the joy of pottery: one can enjoy the magnificent firing, appreciate how the colors transform when sake is poured, and delight in the vessel's development as it is used and handled over time.\n\nSigned wooden box (shihozan) included\u003cbr\u003e\nDiameter 6.0cm x 6.0cm x Height 4.7cm\n\nAriyuki Kaneshige was born as the third son of the Intangible Cultural Property holder, Sozan Kaneshige. He began studying pottery techniques under his father in 1975. He became independent in 1980 and held his first solo exhibition in Okayama. He creates tea ceramics, including tea bowls, water jars, and flower vases, as well as tableware. He places special importance on the inner form (mikomi) of his tea bowls, which are his particular passion, while pursuing a perfect balance in their exterior. He has received numerous awards, including the Sanyo Shimbun Prize at the Prefectural Art Exhibition, the Encouragement Prize at the Chanoyu Modeling Exhibition, and the Tanko Biennale Encouragement Prize. In 2003, he received the Japan Ceramic Society Award.
