{"product_id":"p4967","title":"Bizen Hohin","description":"This is a Bizen ware *hōhin* (teapot) by Living National Treasure Toshu Yamamoto, a master who created numerous masterpieces with unparalleled, god-like techniques. The piece bears the large, triangular \"Ma\" seal used around the time Toshu was designated as a holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property by the prefecture. The form, meticulously calculated as one would expect from a master of the potter's wheel, is so precise that the lid and body fit together perfectly, guided by the *yohen botamochi* (kiln-fired rice cake) markings. The rare *haikaburi* (ash-covered) *yohen* firing is also magnificent, with a superb combination of rich ash deposits and subtle hints of scarlet emerging through the glaze. The interior also displays the beautiful quality of the clay, inviting one to gaze at it for a while after use.\n\nSigned wooden box (double-slat) \u003cbr\u003e\nDiameter 9.5cm × Diameter 8.2cm × Height 8.0cm\n\nToshu Yamamoto (1906–1994, born in Imbe, Bizen City) entered the world of pottery in 1921 and established his own kiln in 1933.
