{"product_id":"p5017","title":"Bizen ware sake cup","description":"This is a newly fired Bizen sake cup by Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki, who continues to lead the world of Bizen ware with an inexhaustible creative power. This piece perfectly balances the characteristic effects of Anagama (tunnel kiln) firing, showcasing the quintessential Isezaki Bizen style with its Goma (ash glaze), Hidasuki (fire-cord markings), charred Goma, and a beautiful gradation of white clay and scarlet hues. Due to the intense firing process, the piece is rich in variation: where the straw came into direct contact with the fire, it attracted the ash to create white and thread-like Goma, while other areas feature vibrant Hidasuki that stand out against the white clay, making it truly spectacular. The intense Goma that has flowed into the interior of the cup looks as if it were scooped up directly from the kiln, and the way the ash glitters like gold dust is breathtaking. The base features the artist's signature Uchimon (hammered patterns), where linear engravings are combined with a gentle pentagonal deformation, resulting in a novel and intriguing design.\n\nSigned wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time for shipping).\u003cbr\u003e\nDiameter 6.5cm × Diameter 6.1cm × Height 7.2cm\n\nJun Isezaki was born as the second son of Youzan Isezaki, a master of ceramic craftwork, and began learning ceramics at a young age before embarking on his career after graduating from the Okayama University Special Art Course in 1959. His body of work is vast, spanning from traditional vessels such as flower vases, plates, and tea ceremony wares to ceramic murals and sculptural objects. In his practice, he emphasizes both forming and firing, utilizing the distinct qualities of his materials and various kilns (Anagama, Noborigama, and electric kilns) to create a style imbued with a modern sensibility. He is also a leading figure in relief art, having unveiled numerous works. He became a full member of the Japan Kōgei Association in 1966. From 1978, he served as a special lecturer in art at Okayama University for nine years. In 1998, he and his brother Mitsuru were jointly designated as Holders of Important Intangible Cultural Properties of Okayama Prefecture, and in the same year, he became the Executive Director of the Chugoku Branch of the Japan Kōgei Association.
