{"product_id":"p5098","title":"Hikidashi-guro sake cup","description":"This is a freshly kiln-fired sake cup in *hikidashi-guro* (pulled black) style by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Kouriki, a former apprentice of the master Sozan Kaneshige. This latest work, fired in early summer 2018, features a *hikidashi-guro* finish never before seen in Kouriki’s Bizen wares. It is glazed with black glaze and pulled from the kiln during firing, resulting in a unique, incredibly deep black hue with a metallic sheen caused by carbonization. At one glance it shines like metal, yet the next moment the light seems completely swallowed by the profound blackness, and peering into the bowl feels like gazing into the depths of space. The nuanced variations in color around the foot and rim remind us anew of the mystery of the color black and the nature of light.\n\nSigned wooden box to follow (please allow some time for shipping).\u003cbr\u003e\nDiameter 7.6cm × Diameter 7.5cm × Height 5.3cm\n\nYoshiteru Kouriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. After seven years of training, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 to strike out on his own, and successfully fired his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since.
