p5251
Bizen small teacup
This is a freshly kiln-fired small Bizen ware teacup by Shusaku Taku, a potter who translates the various emotions of daily life into form, using Bizen ware—a craft that has matured alongside the continuous activities of people throughout history—as his medium. True to Taku-sensei’s style of carefully crafting each piece with the intention of reaching the heart of the user, this work is meticulously detailed down to the smallest aspects. The "kase-goma" (matte-textured sesame glaze) that densely covers the entire surface is extremely fine; combined with the sophisticated deep green hues, it resembles the bark of a tree, making it truly wondrous to think that it was born from clay and fire. The "nuke" (uncovered areas) exhibit a dark scarlet color, allowing the user to enjoy the changes and "maturation" through use that are characteristic of kase-style pieces. It has been wheel-thrown with thick walls for hot tea, and while it has a slight heft, its Bizen-typical ability to retain heat makes it highly practical.

Paper box
Diameter 7.7cm x 7.5cm x Height 6.2cm

*A shipping fee of 500 yen applies.

Shusaku Taku was born in 1980 as the eldest son of Mamoru Taku.
