{"product_id":"p5433","title":"Bizen Sake Cup","description":"This is a newly kiln-fired Bizen sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his approach to clay, firing, and craftsmanship. This Bizen-style piece, which Morimoto himself refers to as \"kaburimono\" (layered glaze\/ash effects), features overlapping layers of \"goma\" (ash glaze) and \"sangiri\" (reduced-firing coloration) that form a profound kiln-altered \"garment.\" However, the true essence of this work lies not in the layering itself, but in the exquisite \"nuke\" (openings or unglazed patches) created during the firing process; the sublime shadows that emerge within the hard-fired surface are truly masterful. Rather than the soft-fired \"nuke\" often seen in contemporary Bizen, Morimoto pursues the firm, tight-fired \"nuke\" characteristic of ancient Bizen pottery, completing a three-dimensional and dense texture by adding the layered effects and \"nuke\" to a rich, chocolate-like clay base. The resulting profound layered effects are a masterpiece, and the \"sangiri\" that appears almost wet, along with the yellow \"goma\" that looks as if it could be plucked from the surface, are magnificent. By eschewing the singular pursuit of either intense firing or soft clay texture, all elements are intricately interwoven to create a texture of the highest quality.\n\nSigned wooden box (shiho-san) included\u003cbr\u003e\nDiameter 7.4cm x 7.0cm x Height 6.0cm\n\nYoshinobu Morimoto was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1976.
