{"product_id":"p5574","title":"Bizen Sake Cup","description":"This is a newly fired Bizen sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with a superb aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his work with clay, firing, and technique. It is a piece in the \"kaburimono\" (layered glaze\/ash effect) style, as Morimoto himself describes it, where layers of \"goma\" (ash glaze) and \"sangiri\" (smoky reduction firing) overlap to create a profound kiln-altered \"garment.\" However, the true essence of this work lies in the exquisite \"nuke\" (the areas where the glaze breaks or leaves exposed clay) produced during the firing process; the superlative shadows that emerge within the tightly fired, hardened surface are breathtaking. This is not the \"amagayaki\" (soft-fired) nuke often seen in contemporary Bizen, but rather a pursuit of the tightly fired nuke found in authentic ancient Bizen. By adding layers of \"kaburimono\" and \"nuke\" onto a rich, chocolate-like clay base, he has achieved a three-dimensional and dense texture. The piece features the distinct, substantial \"sangiri\" characteristic of ancient Bizen, and the casually placed straw has created \"itogoma\" (thread-like ash markings) on the upper portion, resulting in a landscape that could easily be mistaken for an antique. The interior is also heavily layered with profound \"goma,\" which, combined with the shadows on the surface, creates a magnificent, three-dimensionally layered texture.\n\nSigned wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time for shipping)\u003cbr\u003e\nDiameter 6.5cm × 6.5cm × Height 6.1cm\n\nYoshinobu Morimoto was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1976.
