p5695
Black small bowl
This is a newly kiln-fired black small bowl by Masao Akitani, an artist who trained under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with unique originality amidst a fresh spirit. It is crafted using the black Bizen technique inherited from his mentor, Jun Isezaki, resulting in a black color that is remarkably lovely—deeply lustrous yet warm in tone. He uses black clay from Osafune Isogami, famous for sword making, and by melting it into the surface, he achieves a beautiful black texture. The interior features vibrant splashes of sesame glaze, which, combined with the black, create a scene reminiscent of a starry night sky. The area around the foot is thinly carved, allowing the spatula marks to emerge when held to the light.

No box
Diameter 12.4cm x 12.4cm x Height 5.1cm

*A shipping fee of 500 yen applies.

Masao Akitani was born in Saitama in 1968.
