p5745
Ibe Octagonal Bowl
This Bizen-yaki octagonal bowl is by Kosuke Yashiro, who spent his formative years dreaming of working with Bizen ware in Imbe, finally realizing his long-held ambition of building his own kiln there to make his debut. The work is a quintessential example of Yashiro’s straight-shooting approach to Bizen-yaki—a craft he committed his life to after falling in love with the pieces of the countless potters who were born, raised, and passed away in Imbe. The overall coloring is very understated and refined, possessing the elegant, weathered aesthetic that is the very essence of Bizen ware. The slightly bluish-grey "kase-goma" (dry ash glaze) harmonizes beautifully with the faintly reddish clay body, reminiscent of the "yama-tsuchi" (mountain clay) period works of Ariyoshi Kaneshige. This small bowl has enough depth to be practical even for dishes with liquid. Its simple octagonal design is versatile and unpretentious, serving as an excellent supporting player in any setting or for any cuisine. (*Please note: The clay body is somewhat porous, so liquids left in the bowl for an extended period may seep through.)

No box included
Diameter 15.4cm x 15.3cm x Height 4.0cm

*A shipping fee of 500 yen applies.

Kosuke Yashiro was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido, in 1979.
