{"product_id":"p5856","title":"Bizen Horseback Sake Cup","description":"This is a Bizen horse-riding cup (bajohai) by the timeless master Ken Fujiwara, a man who possessed both boldness and meticulousness. It is a work from his later years fired in his large kiln (oogama); it features a rich, crimson fire-cord (hidasuki) pattern against the red clay body characteristic of such firings. The red areas have a remarkably matte, moist texture similar to that of kiln-transformed scarlet, which seems as though it will only grow more lustrous and refined through the polishing effect of sake as it is used. The viscous, oil-painting-like hidasuki circles the piece simply, serving as a subtle accent that does not interfere with the form or the character of the clay. The unwavering spatula work around the waist is magnificent, truly reflecting the style of Fujiwara, who frequently crafted these horse-riding cups.\n\nSigned wooden box (shiho-san) included\u003cbr\u003e\nDiameter 6.3cm × Diameter 6.3cm × Height 6.2cm\n\nKen Fujiwara (1924–1977) began his pottery career in 1946 under his uncle, Kei Fujiwara, and also studied under Toyo Kaneshige and Sozan Kaneshige. Later, he learned tableware production techniques under Rosanjin Kitaoji in Kamakura before becoming independent and building his own kiln in 1956. From then on, he was repeatedly selected for various exhibitions. In 1970, he devised and constructed a Bizen large kiln (oogama) using modern refractory bricks. He was designated as a Prefectural Important Intangible Cultural Property holder in 1973 and was also awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Rays. Although he was expected to be a leader for the next generation of Bizen pottery, he passed away at the young age of 53.","brand":"藤原 建","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46618014515297,"sku":"5856","price":48000.0,"currency_code":"JPY","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0654\/9916\/8865\/files\/5856.jpg?v=1790231121","url":"https:\/\/tourakuen.myshopify.com\/en\/products\/p5856","provider":"川口陶楽苑","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
