p5907
Bizen ware teacup
This is a new Bizen tea cup fresh from the kiln by Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki, an artist who continues to lead the world of Bizen pottery with an inexhaustible creative power.
Fired for approximately 10 days in an anagama kiln, this piece showcases a finish characteristic of Isezaki Bizen, featuring a delightful display of *goma* (ash glaze), *hidasuki* (fire-cord markings), *ito-goma* (thread-like ash), and a gradient of white clay and scarlet hues.

For this work, the artist used a coarse, sandy clay, allowing the individual grains to show through the scarlet gradient.

The straw was applied diagonally across the piece, creating a *hidasuki* pattern that circles the entire cup; the flow of the straw markings is so captivating that you may find yourself losing track of time while tracing them with your eyes.

Furthermore, as the straw burned, it fused with the natural ash glaze, transforming into what is known as *ito-goma*, where the shape of the straw remains captured in the surface.

Inside the cup, the fusion of straw and ash has created white *goma* markings, reminiscent of melting snow falling into the vessel, which makes for a fascinating visual experience.

While labeled as a tea cup on the box, it can of course also be used as a beer mug.
Signed wooden box (shiho-san style) included.
Diameter 8.2cm x 7.8cm x Height 9.8cm
Jun Isezaki was born the second son of Yozan Isezaki, a master known for his ceramic sculptures.
