p5916
Bizen sake cup
This is a freshly kiln-fired Bizen sake cup by Kazuki Nakamura, a creator of profound works who carries on the tradition of the master sake vessel craftsmen Rokuro Nakamura and Shin Nakamura.

While inheriting the lineage of these masters, this piece is quintessentially Kazuki, incorporating a unique flair into his style that distinguishes it from that of his father and grandfather.

Completed in a June kiln-firing, this latest work features a relaxed, rhythmic rise from the base—a testament to his grandfather’s wheel technique—that radiates an exquisite allure.

In terms of ergonomics, the slightly constricted body fits perfectly between the thumb and index finger, while the base provides a firm hold for the middle finger, making it easier to handle than its appearance suggests.

While maintaining the beautiful scarlet hue characteristic of the Nakamura family, he has aimed for a rich *haikaburi* (ash-covered) kiln transformation, achieving an exquisite balance of scarlet and kiln-fired effects through masterful firing control.

In particular, the *nuke* (clear patch) on the front and the interior of the foot reveal a remarkably soft, mellow scarlet; one finds themselves wanting to slowly nurture the piece while enjoying the contrast with the hard-fired quality of the interior.

Signed wooden box included (two-way braced)
Diameter 8.6cm x 8.5cm x Height 3.8cm

Kazuki Nakamura was born in 1980 in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, as the eldest son of Shin Nakamura.

After graduating from the Faculty of Letters at Okayama University in 2003, he studied under his grandfather, Rokuro Nakamura, and his father, Shin Nakamura, to refine his ceramic skills.

He fired his first kiln and became independent in 2006.
