p5917
Bizen Yohen Sake Cup
This is a brand new Bizen yohen sake cup, freshly taken from the kiln by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative vision without pretense while having studied under the masters Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
A latest work fired in June 2020, this is an ash-covered yohen sake cup that has been fired with incredible intensity.

True to Mr. Koriki’s style of bringing out the character of the clay through daring, risk-taking kiln firings, the piece features a struggle between the black ash-covered yohen that evokes cooling, solidified magma and amber-like, glassy yellow sesame glaze.

The "nuke" (clear patch) on the front reveals a thoroughly fired, hard clay texture, while the surrounding area retains a thick, rich shiso-red hue; it is fascinating to see the paradoxical way in which the intense firing accentuates the character of the clay.

Furthermore, the heavy firing has strongly affected the boundaries between the clay texture and the yohen, known as "kumadori." These clearly defined lines are further accented with a golden sheen, giving the piece the appearance of a rainbow arch.

Signed wooden box to follow (please note that there will be a short delay before shipment).
Diameter 6.3cm x 6.2cm x Height 5.9cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years starting in 1989 under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, his work was selected for the Tea Ceremony Molding Exhibition for the first time.
