p5919
Hidasuki Sake Cup
This is a brand-new Bizen *hidasuki* (fire-cord) sake cup, fresh from the kiln of Yoshiteru Kouriki, an artist who pursues his own creative vision without pretense, despite having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This latest work, fired in June 2020, features a subtle application of *hidasuki* that evokes a sense of *wabi* charm.

Fired in a custom-made electric kiln capable of wood-firing, which requires the same amount of time as an *anagama* (climbing kiln), the piece showcases a moist texture and a rich *hidasuki* coloration that seems to permeate the very core of the clay, clearly demonstrating that he has truly inherited his masters' techniques.

It seems that Kouriki-sensei has adopted a slightly thinner and sharper wheel-throwing style starting from this kiln firing, and this refined form pairs perfectly with his swift and delicate *hidasuki* patterns.

The *mogusa* (moxa-colored) clay surface is densely speckled with black iron particles characteristic of the clay, creating a depth reminiscent of *washi* paper that catches the light beautifully.

Signed wooden box to be provided at a later date (please allow some time for shipping)
Diameter 6.6cm x 6.5cm x Height 5.9cm

Yoshiteru Kouriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years starting in 1989 under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to become independent, and fired his first kiln the following year.
He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since.
In 2002, his work was selected for the Chanoyu Zokei-ten (Exhibition of Tea Ceremony Ceramics) for the first time.
