p6031
Hidasuki Polka-dot Teacup
This is a Bizen Hidasuki "polka-dot" yunomi tea cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative vision without pretense while having apprenticed under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This latest piece was taken from the kiln in June 2020 and belongs to Koriki's original polka-dot series.

Fired in a custom-built electric kiln capable of wood-firing techniques, it is baked over the same duration as a traditional climbing kiln, resulting in a moist texture and a rich, deep-seated crimson Hidasuki coloring that clearly reflects the techniques inherited from his masters.

Having turned fifty and embarking on a fresh chapter in his ceramic practice, Koriki has shifted the atmosphere of his polka-dot works from his previous flamboyant style toward a more "wabi" aesthetic.

To complement the subtle, hazy polka-dot pattern, the straw-wrapping technique is quite understated, with the Hidasuki markings left only sparingly within the interior of the cup.

The result is a piece with deep character that can be enjoyed even by those who are not fond of vivid or intense Hidasuki patterns.

No box included
Diameter 7.7cm × 7.7cm × Height 8.9cm

*Shipping fee is 500 yen.

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he apprenticed under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige for seven years starting in 1989 to study pottery.

He built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and became independent in 1996, firing his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition for the first time.
