p6044
Shuten
This is a Karatsu sake cup from the previous work of Kentaro Miyoshi, who studied ceramics in Kasama and Karatsu, and continues to create pottery in the Echizen region.

This sake cup features a magnificent glaze tone characteristic of Miyoshi-sensei, who studied in the heart of Karatsu.
The interior displays a fine, understated "kairagi" (plum blossom crackle glaze), while the area around the waist shows a bolder, more dynamic kairagi effect.

He has brilliantly recreated kairagi—synonymous with Ido-style pieces that have captivated tea masters for ages—on a sake cup less than 10cm in size. Looking at it in the palm of your hand, you feel like a giant holding a tea bowl.

Although it carries the dignity of a tea bowl, it has a very comfortable fit, making it the perfect size for those who prefer slightly larger sake cups.

The piece is quite thin, including the glaze, so it is expected to change quickly with use.

This is an unused item that was purchased new and kept carefully in storage without being opened.

Signed wooden box (double-crosspiece)
Diameter 8.3cm x 8.0cm x Height 5.1cm

*Shipping fee is 500 yen.

Kentaro Miyoshi was born in Hokkaido in 1953.

He studied pottery in Kasama, Ibaraki Prefecture starting in 1973, and in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture starting in 1975.

In 1979, he became independent after building a bamboo-split climbing kiln in Takefu City, Fukui Prefecture.

He currently researches ancient Echizen ware and holds solo exhibitions across the country.
