p6128
Bizen ware tea bowl
This new Bizen tea bowl is by Kazuki Nakamura, an artist who crafts works with profound depth, following in the lineage of the master sake vessel makers, Rokuro Nakamura and Shin Nakamura.

While maintaining the tradition of these masters of sake vessel creation, the piece bears Kazuki's signature style, infusing a unique character into his work that sets it apart from his father and grandfather.

As one of his latest works, fired in October 2020, the relaxed, rhythmic rise of the form, achieved through wheel-throwing techniques inherited from his grandfather, emanates an exquisite charm.

The powerful undulations of the rim and foot, which could almost be mistaken for those of his grandfather Rokuro, possess a composed atmosphere and a unique allure rarely seen in a young artist.

This is an intriguing experiment that takes his highly acclaimed flat sake cup design—popular among liquor connoisseurs—and scales it up for use as a tea bowl, while retaining the signature scarlet clay texture of the Nakamura family.

The tactile experience is identical to that of a flat sake cup; it allows the aroma of the tea to spread gently, while the uniquely undulating rim shape offers a soft, welcoming contact for the lips.

No box included
Diameter 9.1cm x 9.0cm x Height 4.5cm

*Please note that a shipping fee of 500 yen applies.

Kazuki Nakamura was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, in 1980 as the eldest son of Shin Nakamura.

After graduating from the Faculty of Letters at Okayama University in 2003, he apprenticed under his grandfather, Rokuro Nakamura, and his father, Shin Nakamura, to hone his ceramic skills.

He fired his first kiln and became an independent artist in 2006.
