p6157
Ao-Shino Tea Cup
This is an Ao-Shino (blue Shino) teacup by Takashi Baba, who was born in Imbe and has loved Bizen ware since childhood, finding his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns.
This piece was removed from the kiln around November 2020. It is a unique work made by applying Shino glaze to Shino clay and firing it in a Bizen climbing kiln.

While the base is consistent with traditional Shino ware, the overlapping effects from the climbing kiln firing create a new series that offers endless variations to enjoy.

The most striking feature of this work is the glaze tone, which stretches out like a vast blue sky, perfectly capturing the signature style of Baba-sensei, known for his dedication to blue kiln transformations using cobalt.

While retaining the soft, beautiful colors characteristic of feldspar-based Shino ware, the overlapping sky-blue glaze creates delightful shifts in shading.

The orthodox form, combined with the texture of the glaze, makes it very easy to use.

No box included (*a paulownia wood box can be crafted separately)
Diameter 9.5cm × 9.2cm × Height 8.7cm

Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba.

Having decided to become a ceramic artist from a young age, he chose to study sculpture in university to broaden the scope of his pottery.

After graduating from the Tokyo University of the Arts with a degree in sculpture in 2006, he entered the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture to further hone his skills.

He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition.

Currently, he is actively showcasing his work primarily through solo exhibitions at department stores.
