p6167
Pull out the white liquor and drink.
Born as the eldest son of Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki,
Koichiro Isezaki brings a fresh breeze to the world of Bizen ware with his exceptional sense and masterful modeling skills. This is a newly fired *hikidashi* (drawn-out) white sake cup.

While utilizing the characteristics of Bizen ware as an earthen material, he skillfully incorporates elements of wood carving—one of his own roots—to create unique pieces that are instantly recognizable as his work.

Through the *hikidashi* technique, in which the piece is drawn from the kiln during firing, the kiln transformation and the overall scenery take on jewel-like changes, with the translucent *goma* (ash glaze) achieving a beautiful amber-like hue.

As with his signature white series, he uses special white clay from Ibe. The pure white clay base layers with the faint green of the natural glaze to create a beautiful, ice-blue surface that resembles a mineral stone.

At the bottom of the interior, there is a section where the natural glaze flowed and cooled; when sake is poured in, it creates a mystical scene that looks like an amber block shimmering on a lakebed.

The piece was hand-formed rather than wheel-thrown, and the meticulous attention to detail gives it a dense presence reminiscent of a tea bowl.

Signed wooden box to follow (we apologize, but please allow some time for delivery).
Diameter 7.7cm x 7.5cm x Height 5.8cm

Koichiro Isezaki was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, in 1974 as the eldest son of Jun Isezaki.

After graduating from the Sculpture Department of Tokyo Zokei University in 1994, he studied abroad in the United States.

Later, in 1998, he studied under Jeff Shapiro, a New York-based ceramic artist and apprentice to his father.

After two years of studying ceramics, he returned to Japan and, in 2000, became an independent ceramic artist under his father, Jun Isezaki.
