p6177
Bizen ware tea bowl
This is a Bizen tea bowl by Kazuki Nakamura, an artist who carries on the lineage of the master sake ware potters Rokuro Nakamura and Shin Nakamura to create deeply evocative works.
While following in the footsteps of these masters of sake ware, this flat-cup style tea bowl embodies Kazuki’s unique style, subtly incorporating a distinct flair that sets him apart from his father and grandfather.
The powerful undulation of the rim and foot—so reminiscent of his grandfather Rokuro—brings an air of composure and a unique sensuality rarely seen in such a young artist.
It is an intriguing piece that reimagines his highly acclaimed flat sake cup design on a larger scale, specifically for sencha tea.
The tactile experience mirrors that of the flat sake cup; it allows the aroma of the tea to expand leisurely, while the uniquely undulating rim gently cradles your lips.
The base features a soft, earthy brown clay, with a *botamochi* (peony mochi) pattern created by a *goma* (ash glaze) exclusion technique in the interior.
No box included
Diameter 9.7cm x 9.6cm x Height 4.3cm
*Please note that a shipping fee of 500 yen applies.
Kazuki Nakamura was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, in 1980 as the eldest son of Shin Nakamura.
After graduating from the Faculty of Letters at Okayama University in 2003, he studied under his grandfather, Rokuro Nakamura, and his father, Shin Nakamura, to refine his ceramic skills.
He fired his first kiln and became an independent artist in 2006.
