p6212
Ao-Shino Tea Cup
Born in Imbe and having loved Bizen ware since childhood, Takashi Baba finds his life's joy in crafting his work and firing the kiln. This is a new Blue Shino teacup, fresh from the kiln.

Fired around April 2021, this is a unique piece made by applying Shino glaze to Bizen clay and firing it in a Bizen climbing kiln.

While the base follows the style of Shino ware, the overlapping effects of the climbing kiln firing create a new series where you can enjoy infinite variations.

The most striking feature of this work is the glaze, which stretches out like a boundless blue sky—a piece that overflows with the signature style of Baba-sensei, who is known for his dedication to cobalt-based blue kiln transformations.

It retains the soft, beautiful colors of the feldspar-based glaze characteristic of Shino ware, while the overlapping sky-blue glaze adds depth with its changing shades.

Its orthodox form pairs perfectly with the texture of the glaze, making it very easy to use.

No box included (*a paulownia wood box can be made separately)
Diameter 8.6cm x 8.6cm x Height 7.9cm

Takashi Baba-sensei was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba.

Having considered becoming a ceramic artist since he was young, he chose to study sculpture in university to broaden his perspective on pottery.

He graduated from the Sculpture Department of Tokyo University of the Arts in 2006, then went on to refine his skills at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture.

He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition.

Currently, he is active primarily through solo exhibitions at department stores.
