p6267
Blue Shino Sake Cup
This is a new Blue Shino sake cup (guinomi) by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Inbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds joy in creating work and firing kilns.

Fired around April 2021, this piece is unique as it uses Bizen clay coated with Shino glaze and fired in a Bizen climbing kiln.

While the overall character of the piece follows the tradition of Shino ware, the overlapping firing process in the climbing kiln has resulted in a luxurious work where the aesthetics of both Shino and Bizen converge, including gold hues appearing on the exposed clay.

The most striking feature of this work is the glaze texture that stretches out like a boundless blue sky, overflowing with the signature style of Mr. Baba, who is dedicated to cobalt-based blue kiln transformations.

While retaining the soft, beautiful colors of the feldspar-based glaze characteristic of Shino ware, the overlapping sky-blue glaze creates subtle variations in shading that offer constant visual delight.

The orthodox form, combined with the texture of the glaze, makes it very easy to use.

Signed wooden box (Shiho-san)
Diameter 7.7cm × 7.5cm × Height 5.9cm

Takashi Baba was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba.

Determined to become a ceramic artist from a young age, he chose to study sculpture in university to broaden his artistic perspective.

After graduating from the Sculpture Department of Tokyo University of the Arts in 2006, he honed his skills at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture.

He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition.

Currently, he is actively showcasing his work primarily through solo exhibitions at department stores.
